LINE SKIS HOLIDAY & CAMP, APRIL 2006
DIARY BY LEE
Day 1/2 - Friday 31st March to Saturday 1st April
The LINE Ski Camp to Les Deux Alpes was absolutely brilliant. Friday and part of Saturday was spent traveling which was not so good (but the skiing was great!).
Generally after skiing each day we got changed, went around town and then back to the hotel for a meeting, after which was dinner. After dinner we were normally allowed out until 10:30pm / 11pm.
Day 3 - Sunday 2nd April
On the first day of skiing, we did not just go straight to the Park. We went on some piste runs to warm up our skiing. On reflection I didn’t particularly enjoy that because my legs were too tired to do some things in the Park later in the day. But when we got to the Park I was having fun and trying my best not to be too tired. I tried out the Halfpipe, I was awful, so I just decided to have a go at some rails. I managed to do the rail and then I was working on different things like 270 off the rail etc. That night we all went to watch the BUSC Big Air opening ceremony in which loads of great skiers and snowboarders hit a big jump.
Day 4 - Monday 3rd April
We just headed straight for the Park the whole day. At the start, I decided to practice some more rails. Then later in the day I was hitting some kickers. At first on the kickers I was just trying them out, doing straight air grabs, then later on I started to try 360s, but I was scared to do the bigger jump. I enjoyed getting filmed by Chris and Pat and having pictures taking by Rick.
Day 5 - Tuesday 4th April
Tuesday morning I hit some rails again. Later on I was told there was a fence jump, so I went up to hit it, I didn’t realise it was going to be such a big drop, but I didn’t fall. Then I went for some more rails and to end the day Gav took me and a few other boys to a small cliff drop, I was last, I was shitting myself, I took a while to go, then all of these random French guys turned around and started chanting, I got hyped up and went for it. I had no idea what I was doing in the air. I hit the ground and tumbled over, It was great fun and didn’t hurt one bit. I especially enjoyed that day because I had a chance to do that cliff drop, which I had never done before.
Day 6 - Wednesday 5th April
On Wednesday the Park was closed due to weather conditions, if you wanted you could go up and ski, but I gave it a miss since my muscles were a bit sore.
Day 7 - Thursday 6th April
At the start of the day we all got filmed doing the fence jump. I started to hit the bigger kicker out of the two beside the drag tow in the park. At first it was hard to clear the knuckle, but I got it and I started to do 360 grabs over it with ease, then I tried a 540 and landed it. I was very pleased with myself. This day was excellent since I was able to get a lot more height than usual on the Hillend dry slope back home, and I could do really slow 360s.
After dinner we all went bowling, bowling was good fun but I wasn’t that good at it, but I came to ski- not bowl!
Day 8 - Friday 7th April
Friday was my last day skiing. I was very tired so I did not do much. At the start of the day I started to just session some of the rails, Glen was filming with my camera. After that Jamie and me decided to just get the chairlift to the top of the Park and go to some random off piste runs. We did it twice and I was tired and wet (I was doing forward rolls in the powder) so I went back to the Hotel earlier than everyone else with Murray as I was tired and his shins were sore. That day wasn’t anything special but I was exhausted!
Day 9 - Saturday 8th April
On the last day of skiing I was shattered. I decided just to take a day off and get organised more with my packing etc. (I was happy with my decision when the boys that had gone skiing said it wasn’t that good since the slopes were icy.)
