WAS IT THE “ULTMATE SKI HOLIDAY”?! /cont…Days 1 & 2 - Friday 31st March to Saturday 1st April
Fortunately the journey proved a lot quicker than most of us expected and it was a good opportunity to start making friends, and to store up some sleep before the week began. Driving into the resort on the Saturday we had two buses full of excited skiers ready to grab their lift passes and start planning the next day’s skiing. The rain did nothing to dampen enthusiasm, especially as we knew it meant fresh snow up on the mountain!
Once unpacked we held the first of what would become regular daily meetings, a chance to get to know each other, to exchange stories, to watch video footage and to share the fun. (News soon spread that a few of the guys had already found an urban rail when scouting around town, something that would be ridden later in the week.) Following introductions from the Coaches and those on the Camp it was already obvious that a strong friendship was developing between everyone, regardless of age. The first day, travelling by road to the resort, was never going to be the easiest but everyone settled in to the buses and we made our way as quickly as possible to Les Deux Alpes, with plenty of stops along the way.
The well located hotel, La Belle Etoile, provided to be an excellent choice with a very friendly welcome, comfortable rooms (with big window ledges that served as fridges throughout the week!), good food, a jacuzzi and sauna!
