WELCOME TO TOURPARTY SKIING HOLIDAYS AND SKI CAMPS...
INFORMATION ON THE SKI CROSS COACHING OPTION
PERFECT YOUR SKI CROSS WITH TOURPARTY
Following the great success of our Tourparty Holidays and Camps, we have decided to broaden the choice of ski instruction and coaching options we offer as part of our Skiing Holiday and Ski Camp packages, to include professional ski instruction and coaching for adults new to Skier X or for more experienced Skier-X competitors wanting to improve their Ski Cross technique.
This Camp will be run alongside our Tourparty "Learn To Ski", "Ski Progression", Freestyle and Freeride Adult Spring Camps, at the same time in the same resort so friends and family wanting different types of ski instruction and coaching can come on a Tourparty Camp together and share in one amazing holiday.
The BRITS 08 are on during the week of our SkierX 08 Camp in Laax and as part of the Tourparty package price you can compete if you want (and are eligible) in the BRITS and also enjoy all the apres-ski activities taking place during the week in the resort at no extra cost with your complementary BRITS Festival wristband.

Also the Tourparty Spring Ski Camps and Tourparty Spring Snowboard Camps run alongside each other, so skiing and snowboarding friends and family can also come out with Tourparty and have fun together on and off the mountain. If you have any snowboarding friends or family looking for a great snowboarding holiday just point them to the Tourparty Snowboarding web pages.
ABOUT SKIER X
Ski Cross - also known variously as Skier-X, Skier X or Skier Cross - is the hottest new Olympic event, selected by the International Olympic Committee on 28 November 2006 for inclusion in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, from 12th to 28th February 2010. It is still a young sport, but one that is rapidly evolving. Its inclusion on the programme of the next Winter Games in Vancouver is proof of this.
Skiercross has its roots in the USA, it was an official discipline in the first Winter X-Games in 1998 in Crested Butte, Colorado. Although various skiing events have come and gone in the Winter X-Games over the years, Ski Cross has remained and grown in popularity, helped by the launch of the Saab Salomon Crossmax Series (started in 2000) and its inclusion in the International Ski Federation's (FIS) World Cup freestyle circuit in 2003.
Originally inspired by Moto Cross, Skier X involves groups of skiers racing each other to the bottom of a course through a series of natural terrain or artificial features, with jumps, rollers, banks etc.
It is often exciting and spectacular thanks to the combination of the speed and energy of alpine downhill, the various obstacles and course challenges and the head to head “first past the post” nature of the race.
As a result it appeals to skiers in search of big thrills: usually the riders start in heats of 4 (sometimes 6) with the first 2 (or 3) in each heat qualifying for the following run. The races, also called knockout rounds, continue like this until there are only four skiers left in contention. Success depends on good technique, determination, guts, strong legs and good balance to cope with the transitions and obstacles over the course.
SKI CROSS INSTRUCTION ON THE TOURPARTY SKIER CROSS CAMP
The Tourparty Skier X Camp’s coaches are experienced race and freestyle instructors who bring the best of both worlds to this unique skiing category. They will take you through a programme of training to help you understand fully the strategy, techniques, psychology and fitness required to compete in Ski Cross.
Skiers on the Skier-X Camps are normally intermediate to advanced skiers who are confident skiing on-piste; some have no previous racing experience of any kind, others have race experience (sometimes to a high level) but limited experience of skiing Ski Cross competitively, others have already got SkierX race experience and are focussed on making rapid progression, perhaps with their sights set on competing at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010.
The training will cover the ground between freeskiing and competitive skiing. At the beginning of the Camp you will be assessed to determine your current experience and level and then you will be given individual coaching, with video review and feedback, to help you work on the basic techniques that will help you improve your skiing not only in Skier Cross but around the whole mountain. This will enable you to work on precise, varied turns that can be used to choose the fastest line through Skier-X courses, in all conditions and terrains.
Once you have perfected the key techniques and worked on your technical skiing, the Coaches will cover the other issues and features brought into play when racing Ski Cross, such as line, tactics, competing for space with 3-5 other competitors and equipment etc.
Over the week the Tourparty Skier Cross Camp will cover everything from basic skiing techniques to advanced tactics that are proven to work at the highest level. The course will take place all over the mountains at Laax / Films, including Laax’s own Skiercross course, home to the BRITS 08 and many other competitions.
By coming on this Camp you will not only learn to compete successfully on the most challenging SkierX courses, you will also improve your speed and confidence skiing around the whole mountain.
It will be challenging at times but also good fun, with the emphasis on personal achievement and mutual support throughout the week, working closely with the Coaches and other participants to achieve real progress in a positive atmosphere during the day, while relaxing each evening, making for an unforgettable week’s holiday in the mountains.
